Government to construct a new Community Complex

Construction of the Grace Green Community Complex at Knuckle Block located at the corner of King Obstinate Drive and Martin’s Road will begin later this year.
Representatives of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China met over the past week to fine tune the Implementation Agreement for the Grant Assistance project which has a preliminary budget of 38 million RMB.
The project comprises of a Community Center, an indoor Basketball Arena, and a covered parking area that can be utilized as a flea market on weekends.
Signatories to the Agreement are Madam Sun Jinhuan, First Secretary, Embassy of the Republic of China, and Mr. Walter Christopher, Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Works and Housing.
Speaking to the parties following the Signing Ceremony, His Excellency, Brian Stuart-Young, Non-Resident Ambassador to the People's Republic of China expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Ambassador said:
“I take this opportunity to thank the visiting team from China who arrived for the signing of the grant assistance agreement; adding that design teams from both the Ministry of Works and Housing and the People’s Republic of China will be working closely for a successful implementation of the project.”
Pledges were also given by the Permanent Secretary and the First Secretary for a continued high level of communication and cooperation in the execution of the Project.
Preparatory work on the site should commence immediately by the Ministry of Works and Housing, with construction earmarked to begin by October of this year and scheduled to be completed in approximately twenty (20) months.
The Basketball Arena will house ticketing offices, locker and change rooms, restrooms and other amenities, whereas; the Community Center will be comprised of computer laboratories, office spaces, and will include an auditorium with a seating capacity of 200 persons.
The site will also be equipped with a standby generator and an underground water cistern and water pumps.
