The Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU), the entity responsible for the rehabilitation of Sir George Water Highway and Friars Hill Road has received orders from the Development Control Authority (DCA) to urge property owners and businesses to remove all advertisement billboards and signs along the roadside of the two corridors.
Relevant authorities are therefore urged to remove all advertisements with immediate effect. The order for the removal of the billboards and marketing paraphernalia was issued on Tuesday.
Failure to comply with the orders will result in the advertisements being forcefully removed and destroyed by the DCA.
Advertisements that line the road ways are viewed as impairment to the planned road expansion works associated the Government of Antigua and Barbuda Road Infrastructure rehabilitation project.
Sir George Water Highway approximately 2.4 miles and Friars Hill Road approximately 3 miles are being rehabilitated through a design and build arrangement.
Taking into account a large amount of businesses operating along Friars Hill Road alone, PIMU deems it fit to notify businesses of the plan for forceful removal of billboard advertisements before the DCA moves ahead with its dismantling plans.
For more billboard owners can contact the project office at telephone number: 562-9176 or email: PIMU@ab.gov.ag - END-
